Installation is quoted based on tile size, pattern, and substrate prep. Large-format tile (24″×24″ and up) and intricate patterns like herringbone or basketweave run higher because they require precise layout and more cuts. Standard 12″×12″ or 12″×24″ subway-style installs are more economical. Materials (tile, grout, thinset, waterproofing) are quoted separately.
Yes — large-format is one of our specialties. Big tile needs back-buttering, perfect substrate flatness (within 1/8 inch over 10 feet), specialized leveling clips, and a wet saw with a continuous-rim diamond blade. We have the equipment and the experience. Large-format installs are custom-quoted based on tile size, pattern, and layout complexity.
We use one of three depending on the project: Schluter Kerdi membrane (red sheet system), RedGard liquid waterproofing, or Hardibacker cement board with sealed seams. All three are code-compliant in Massachusetts. We discuss the choice during the consult — Schluter for fully waterproof shower floors and walls, RedGard for walls only, Hardi when budget is tight.
Yes — herringbone, chevron, basketweave, pinwheel, and Versailles are all in our regular rotation. Complex patterns add 15–25% to the install rate because of the extra cuts and layout time, but the visual result is dramatic. We bring sample boards to the consult so you see exactly what you’ll get.
Kitchen backsplashes are some of our most-requested jobs. Subway tile, mosaic glass, marble hexagon, herringbone — anything from any supplier. Typical kitchen backsplash takes 2 days; labor is quoted based on size and pattern. We coordinate with electrical for any outlet relocations needed before tile goes up.
Always. Most clients buy at Floor & Decor, Tile Shop, Home Depot, or local supply houses. We install whatever you bring — ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, glass mosaic, marble. Our labor rate is the same regardless of where you sourced the tile.
Bathroom floor (40 sqft): 2 days. Bathroom shower walls (90 sqft): 3 days. Kitchen backsplash (35 sqft): 2 days. Whole-bathroom tile (floor + walls): 4–5 days. Times include curing breaks for thinset and waterproofing — rushing those steps is how you get hollow tiles and failed grout in two years.
Yes — grout, seal, and final cleaning are all included in the installation rate. We use unsanded grout for joints under 1/8 inch and sanded grout for wider joints. Natural stone gets sealed before grouting and again after to prevent staining. We hand you a small bottle of the same sealer for occasional touch-ups.
